No Faces

One morning when I finished scrubbing my face, I looked in the bathroom mirror and saw — nothing. My face was gone! Was I hallucinating? I ran to a window, flung it open, spotted a guy walking a dog, a young woman jogging, a mailman on his rounds — all faceless too! Then I screamed at my wise old neighbor, “What’s happening?” With the sincerest, though faceless, smile I’ve ever seen, he answered, “Don’t you see? It’s easier this way. It’s all in your mind, all right, but in everyone else’s mind too. Since we’re really all the same, why look different?”
